Let readers buy an entire wardrobe!

Let readers choose a wardrobe for the rest of the story.

Why it works: Choices that have persistent payoffs increase readers’ investment in future episodes. A reader is more likely to read into episode 2 and beyond if they have something to look forward to.

How to do it: Include a “readerMessage” informing readers that they’ll be able to keep this wardrobe for the rest of the story!

Tips:

  • Try to have all outfits visible during the choice moment, instead of relying on readers to remember what they looked like.
  • If readers purchase the gem outfit, make sure that they're able to wear all of the outfits sold to them over the course of the story (generally changing into one immediately upon making the choice)
  • Experiment with unique ways of displaying outfits on-screen (see example #2).
  • 3-4 outfits are better than 2, when possible!
