Technical Tips
-
Length:
Chapter’s 1-4 should be around 2000 words and all subsequent chapters should be around 1500 words (word count includes all text in the script). This is equivalent to 500 - 800 lines in the script editor.
-
How Many Choices:
Include at least 1 choice every 15-20 lines of dialogue, with one that majorly changes the scenes at least once every other episode.
-
Work With The Art You Have:
Before getting too far into your story, review all of the Places and Clothing we have on the writer’s portal and make sure your story works with what we have.
-
Dialogue Length:
It’s hard to read dialogue boxes with more than 2-3 lines of text in it. There is a light grey vertical line in the script to the right. End your lines of dialogue before that. This also keeps the story moving and readers engaged.
-
Dialogue Animation:
Make sure every line of dialogue has an animation. It is boring to read an episode with static characters.
-
Change Scenes Often:
Our scenes can be pretty static, so don’t stand at one too long. Have the characters walk to a different place, or change locations quickly. This will also help with #4.
Transitions:
If you cut between two scenes quickly (like a bedroom and deli), we won’t know how they got there! Instead, have characters mention that they are hungry and exit. Then enter the deli, pan to the deli bar, and have them walk in. This establishes the scene.
